Along time ago I used to fish a fly exactly like this but the body was made out of glass bead sections. This type of fly became a staple for me, especially as the midge season progressed. When the fish seem to have seen everything, wanted something just a little bit different to show them. In this method shown, you add durability to the fly by wrapping the hackle through resin, and yes, it does float. Mix up sizes in colors to match your fishing locations where you live!
