Mop Sculpin
Cheech - October 2022
By now the mop fly either has a permanent spot in your fly box, or you hate them so much that you won't even fish with anyone that likes them... Jokes aside, the whole "mop" type body has some really cool properties when saturated with water, so naturally I had to morph it into a sculpin pattern. This fly was one of those that was a hit right off the vise and it's caught fish in multiple waters, both technical, and forgiving. My preferred method to fish this one "jig-streamer" style on a euro rod and thin leader, and while I usually say that you can swap up colors, I usually do best with olive colors [see list of alternate body materials as well (below)].
