Brig's Rippin' Rooster
Brig - January 2024
Typically when I’m looking for streamers, I’m looking for a pattern that is going to make the most movement possible. Especially when I am fishing stillwater.
The Rippin’ Rooster is a result of a few long days on Strawberry Reservoir with a bunch of follows but no commitment from the fish.
I was talking with Lance Egan at the shop one day and mentioned my issue with the fish not committing. He gave me some great advice to switch directions right as the fish came close to my fly. Surprise, surprise, it worked! I did run into some issues with the fly line spooking the fish when I’d switch directions, so I knew there was a way to design a streamer that could do this with much less effort
The schlappen mixed with the articulation of this fly makes it easy to get the same movement. Take a slight pause as soon as the fish follows and then STRIP once and BOOM! It’ll entice the fish to strike
I have had success using this streamer on rivers and lakes in Utah, Idaho and Montana. Tie one up for yourself and let me know how it works near you!
