Sloptimus Prime
Cheech - May 2023
For my first ever trip to chase Golden Dorado in Argentina, I tied up a bunch of the usual stuff, but I also wanted to create something that was really long, had a great profile, was lightweight, and would track true. Not too hard right? Usually anglers will take 8 weight rods to chase Dorado because you have casting all day long and the bigger the rod, the fewer casts it takes to wear out your arm. Because the 8 weight is the weapon of choice, the flies need to be really lightweight. Anyway, you can see the challenge here right? The Sloptimus Prime was born a few days before the big Dorado trip, and I was just hoping that it would perform how I thought it would. I knew it would be good when the guide immediately asked what fly I had tied on... "It looks good! FISH IT." he said. Long story short, it worked really really well, and it is now being tied in multiple colors designed to chase predators like Dorado, Muskie, Pike, or big Lake Trout.
